Throughout Year 2 we cover some really fascinating topics from mining to learning about significant historical figures such as Florence Nightingale and Grace Darling.
In Autumn term we learn about mining and take a trip to the Cannock Chase Living Museum to explore this in further detail. Children also explore sculpture by Giacometti and make their own wire sculpture. Children will also learn about living things and their habitats and materials.
In Spring term, children will explore significant explorers from the past including: Charles Darwin, Neil Armstrong, Edmund Hillary, Sylvia Earle and Ibn Battuta. Children look at similarities and differences between Tulum, Mexico and our hometown of Hednesford, Cannock. Children also investigate different weather conditions.
In Summer, children learn about the RNLI and we take a day trip to Blackpool where we visit an RNLI lifeboat station and visit our pen-pal school. Children also learn about plants and seasons and the lifecycle of a butterfly. Children also partake in their Year 2 SAT’s tests throughout May.
For English, maths and science we will be following the national curriculum for Year 2. For English we use either the Read, Write, Inc scheme or Talk for Writing based upon children’s reading/writing ability.
