Attendance

The overall school target for attendance is 97%

Good attendance throughout the school year is vital to your child’s education and various studies have confirmed this.

Attendance + Engagement = Achievement

Attendance

All staff at Pye Green Academy and those within Greenheart Learning Partnership are united in their belief that regular school attendance is the key to enabling children to maximise the educational opportunities available to them. It supports children to become emotionally resilient, confident and competent adults who can realise their full potential and make a positive contribution to their community.

At Pye Green Academy, we aim for fantastic levels of school attendance for all of our children. As a school, we strive for success and expect all parents to work alongside us and be committed to their children’s education.

The overall school target for attendance is 97%.

We continue to promote positive engagement with parents whose children’s attendance has become a cause for concern.

School can no longer authorise any holidays in term time.

The School Day

Doors open at 8:40am. Children should be in school and registered by 8:50am.

End of Day for children in both KS1 and KS2 is 3.20pm.

Total school hours = 32.5 hours per week.

Rewarding Attendance

Every Monday we have a whole school assembly with a focus on values and attendance. Each year group achieving attendance above 97% will receive an attendance certificate from the Headteacher. The class with the highest attendance that week will receive a trophy for the week.

Once a year group has received six certificates, they will decide on a year group reward celebrating their dedication to attendance and learning.

Children with 100% attendance will receive a gold certificate at the end of the school year.

Pye Green Academy engage with the new Staffordshire Little Heroes Campaign aiming to bring the fun, motivational and engaging side to encourage school attendance. The children will receive stickers and certificate for attendance.

We also use ‘Helpful Heroes’ to support children who are emotionally struggling to attend school due to anxiety.

Lower Than Expected Attendance

As well as looking at good attendance, we also look regularly at poor attendance and monitor attendance daily. You must contact the office before 9.00am on the initial day of illness if your child is going to be absent from school. If your child needs a lot of medical appointments for an ongoing medical condition, we ask you to show the office the appointment cards so a log can be put on file. For routine appointments such as dentist or opticians, we ask for these to be made out of school hours.

Absence Escalation Document

Letters are sent out to all parents when their child’s attendance has fallen below 90% or your child arrives to school late regularly. Meetings will be held if attendance does not improve.

School will follow the Local Authority procedures with regards to fines.
