School Council
At Pye Green, our School Council is a group of pupils elected by their fellow pupils and teachers to represent their opinions and raise issues with the Head teacher.
The School Council take forward projects on behalf of the pupils and are involved in planning events.
In Key Stage 2, the children write a manifesto saying why they think their role is important and suggesting ways in which they want to improve the school. These are presented to their class and the class vote to elect their councillor. After class discussions in Key Stage 1, children can volunteer and be elected by their peers and teachers.
When do we meet?
The School Council meets every 2 weeks to discuss and resolve any issues/events. These may include assemblies, lunchtimes or ideas for fundraising events for charities or for the school. Members of the School Council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as planning non-uniform days, writing newsletter articles, meeting with staff and organising various fundraisers.
At Pye Green, the school Council;
- Represents all pupils and is inclusive.
- Takes time to listen to all pupils and communicate their views.
- Feedback to pupils about what is happening next.
- Make things happen – or explain why they can’t.
Eco Committee
At Pye Green, the Eco Committee is a group of pupils who are passionate about the climate and sustainability and determined to work together to make our school as environmentally friendly as possible.
Everyone has a chance to apply for the Eco Committee and individuals are chosen based on their ideas and enthusiasm for creating a greener school.
The Eco Committee works with the Eco Schools Framework which helps us deliver eco-projects that make our school more sustainable, increase environmental learning, and benefit our local community. We have seven steps to cover and once completed we can submit our evidence and apply for the Eco Schools Green Flag award.
When do we meet?
- The Eco Committee meets every other week and works though the seven steps. These seven steps include, forming an eco-committee, completing an environmental review (looking at waste, biodiversity, energy, school grounds, water, marine, healthy living, litter, transport and global citizenship), creating an action plan, establishing curriculum links, inform and involve the wider community, monitor and evaluate our work and progress and create an eco-code. The children will organise events, create and present assemblies and carry out daily activities such as recycling.
At Pye Green, the Eco Committee:
- Represents all pupils and is inclusive.
- Feed back to their classes about what is happening next.
- Make things happens – or explain why they can’t.
